Our Rhythm
Life at Deep Roots has a steady, gentle rhythm: weekly co-op days, regular community gatherings, time outside, and a few signature events that bookend each semester.
Here's what to expect:
-
Deep Roots groups students by age and stage so each child learns alongside peers in a similar season of growth. Our group names reflect what we hope for our children: small beginnings that grow into something deep, strong, and lasting.
Acorns — PK and Kindergarten
Sprouts — 1st through 3rd grade
Saplings — 4th through 6th grade
Oaks — 7th and 8th grade
Redwoods — 9th through 10th grade
-
Deep Roots Homeschool Collective offers parent-led elective classes for students PK through 10th grade. Our focus is hands-on learning in STEAM, nature, and life skills, with a weekly Bible study woven through the rhythm of our week. Each semester we curate a fresh lineup of classes based on the children we serve and the gifts of the parents teaching.
Our classes are electives, designed to complement the homeschool work each family is already doing at home. We don't replace your curriculum. We come alongside it.
-
Co-op meets on Thursdays during the semester. Our days follow a consistent flow that helps children feel grounded and parents feel supported.
Arrival and gathering. Families arrive, children find their friends, teachers prepare for the day.
Opening prayer and Bible study. We start every co-op day in prayer and the Word together.
Class blocks. Parent-led elective classes by age group. STEAM, nature, life skills, and more.
Snack and free play. Time to breathe, run, and reconnect outdoors.
Lunch together. Families gather to eat and catch up.
Closing and dismissal. We end the day the way we started: together.
-

Some of our favorite Deep Roots moments happen outside the co-op classroom:
Park Days. Open, outdoor afternoons together. No agenda, just kids running and parents talking.
Field Trips. Hands-on learning at museums, farms, historic sites, and out in nature.
Family Camping Trips. A weekend in the woods together, the kind of memories our kids will be telling stories about for years.
Oaks/Redwoods Hangouts. Space for our older kids to grow friendships that go beyond co-op classes.
Mom's Nights Out (MNO). Because moms need community too. A night out with the women walking this road alongside you.
Celebration Day and Market. Our semester-end gathering, where students share what they've been learning and families come together to celebrate.
-
Twice a year, Deep Roots families gather for Celebration Day, our favorite tradition. It's part showcase, part festival, part family reunion. Students share what they've made and learned, the market opens for handmade goods and crafts, and the whole community shows up to celebrate. It's the day that reminds us why we do this.
Just as important as describing who and what we are - it is important that we tell you what we are not. We are NOT a drop-off program. We're a co-op, which means parents are part of the work, and the joy. We rely on the participation of our families not only on co-op days, but at all co-op activities! Our village only thrives when our villagers are active.
What's Expected of Parents
Co-ops only work when families show up. At Deep Roots, every family commits to:
Attending co-op days regularly during the semester.
Volunteering in age-appropriate ways: helping in classrooms, supporting events, serving on a committee, or teaching a class.
Participating in community life beyond co-op days when you're able.
Communicating openly when life gets hard. We've all been there.
It's a real commitment. It's also one of the most rewarding ways to homeschool we've found.
